Greens Committee Report September 01, 2008
|
Fall aerification of greens will be done the first week of September. This process is necessary to increase the penetration of water, nutrients and oxygen to the root zone. We will be using 5/8 inch hollow tines on a two inch spacing. This practice will remove approximately 20% of the surface thatch layer. Heavy topdressing with quality sand that meets USGA specifications will complete the process. It will take three weeks to get the greens back in shape after the aerification is complete.

*The new sprigs on holes 8, 9 and 17 are beginning to grow horizontially through the production of stolins and rhizomes. These young plants are still tender and it is necessary to keep all cart traffic on these holes on the paths. We will continue to push these holes with fertilizer and water to fill in the bare spots that remain.
